Sciatica and C-Section Scars

Updated: Jul 27

I received a text just the other day from yet another exasperated soul. "I've tried everything, and I have some questions. Will Myofascial Release help?" Call me, I said.

When I answered, l heard a similar story. A young female voice shared about her two year-long battle with right legged sciatica pain which sometimes went down the left leg too. Teresa, we'll call her in an effort to protect client confidentiality, shared that she'd already pursued an MRI, one physician telling her she was crazy and shouldn't be in pain, the other noting potential bone spurs on her spine. An active lady, she was desperate to get back to her activities and life with kids, pain free.

So, I started asking questions: How long has the pain been occuring? Do you have any other symptoms? When is it worse or better? Do you have children? She answered everything, rounding out with a c-section scar from many years ago. Bingo, I thought and mentioned the connection to her directly. I highly suspected that the c-section scar, even dated, was implicating sciatica symptoms.

C-section rates account for around 32% of births according to CDC statistics. The rate of C-section deliveries rose by 60% from 1996 to it's current rate in 2009. But what sort of rehab care are women experiencing from the MOST COMMON SURGERY IN THE STATES? Anecdotally, none.

Myofascial release, as explained in the last blog entry on healing from hip surgery, works wonders on other surgical scars.

Sure enough, as Teresa and I invited her fascial system to soften we found restrictions near her c-section scar that were contributing to her pain. And, we found more. See, Teresa has been also been struggling with migraines and anxiety for some time. As we worked, we found tender areas around the base of her skull that, when worked on, also helped her c-section scar area open up.

As we finished our session, Teresa stood up and exclaimed "Wow, I already feel better!"

Are you ready to be seen as a unique person with individual restrictions throughout your entire body that deserve respect and attention? If so, I'm ready to work with you. Book your New Client session here.
